Photograph of Nobel Prize winning author Isaac Bashevis Singer (1902-1991) on balcony of in his modest apartment in Miami Beach, Florida. Mr. Singer was born in Leoncin, Poland and was a leading figure of Yiddish literature. Mr. Singer emigrated from Poland to New York City in 1935. He was a frequent contributor to the Yiddish language newspaper Jewish Daily Forward for the Jewish Diaspora in America, and published 18 novels and 14 children’s books. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1978. Mr. and Mrs. Singer lived mainly in New York but had a modest apartment in a high rise building at 9511 Collins Avenue in Surfside, Miami Beach, Florida.
